Welcome to Grizzly Cycles! We are Kevin and Priscilla, the proud husband-and-wife team behind this unique bike shop located on the east side of Bakersfield, California. As lifelong cycling enthusiasts, we truly believe that a great bike can change your life. It opens up a world of adventure, fitness, and community, and that’s the spirit driving everything we do here at Grizzly Cycles.

The History of Grizzly Cycles
Grizzly Cycles began in 2017 as a mobile bike service with a big idea: what if Bakersfield saw bike shops differently? What if service was transparent, approachable, and rooted in community—not just commerce? Kevin and his wife Priscilla launched Grizzly from the back of a van, wrenching curbside and building trust one repair at a time. It wasn’t flashy, but it was personal. And it worked.
Within two years, the mobile model couldn’t keep up with the momentum. Grizzly outgrew the van and opened its first service center—a space that quickly became more than a shop. It evolved into a gathering place, a classroom, and a launchpad for local adventure. Riders came for the repairs, but stayed for the honesty, the storytelling, and the sense that this place was built for them.
From day one, Grizzly Cycles has been about more than bikes. It’s about shifting culture—making cycling feel accessible, empowering, and Bakersfield-proud. Over the years, the shop has expanded its services, championed sun-smart gear and endurance fueling, and become a trusted hub for bikepacking, community rides, and real talk about what it means to ride here, in this city, under this sun.
Today, Grizzly Cycles is still run by Kevin and Priscilla, still grounded in the Southern Sierras, and still dreaming big. Because bikes change lives—and Bakersfield deserves a shop that believes that with its whole heart.
Ambassadors

Gene Hanson
Gene is the engine that never quits. A dedicated commuter and die-hard adventurer, Gene racks up more miles in a month than most do all year—rain or shine, trail or tarmac. He’s been with Grizzly Cycles since the doors first opened, and his belief in the shop runs deeper than tire tread. Gene doesn’t just ride bikes—he lives them. His loyalty, stoke, and relentless curiosity have fueled countless trips, inspired new riders, and helped shape Grizzly into what it is today.
Simply put: Gene bleeds Grizzly.

Drew Raney
is a Grizzly Cycles ambassador and a die-hard single speeder who rides with heart and purpose. Known for tackling trails with just one gear and a whole lot of grit, Drew also channels that same passion into getting the next generation rolling. As the founder of the All Kids Bikes program in his school district, he’s raised thousands to put bikes under students who need them most—proving that a bike can be more than just a ride; it can be a door to freedom, fun, and self-confidence. Whether he’s grinding gravel or guiding young riders, Drew shows up with full send energy and community at the core.

Alejandro Daza
Alejandro is a force on two wheels and in life—the man behind CUMBRE and the living embodiment of the Grizzly Cycles ethos: never give up, never compromise. Whether he’s climbing mountains or chasing meaning in the miles, Alejandro rides with purpose and fire. He’s not just a supporter of the shop; he’s family. A true friend, a constant motivator, and a reminder that the summit is always within reach when you lead with courage.

Mikey "Banana King" Fernadez
Mikey is the kind of rider—and friend—you count yourself lucky to know. Fiercely loyal and endlessly generous, he brings full-gas energy to every ride and every moment spent repping Grizzly Cycles. He’s the one who finishes a ride before most of us hit the halfway point, then sticks around to cheer us in. Wise beyond his years and driven by a rare kind of kindness, Mikey isn’t just part of the team—he’s part of the soul.

Jose Orozco
Jose is the quiet craftsman of the crew—the one who’ll pause mid-ride to tweak a derailleur (even if he’s not running one). A proud believer that rigid bikes are just fine, he backs up his philosophy with miles and stoic style. But don't mistake simplicity for scarcity—Jose has a deep appreciation for the finer things, whether that’s a perfect tire pressure or a post-ride espresso that hits just right. Immune to peer pressure and solid when the going gets tough, he’s the kind of riding partner you want next to you when the trail disappears and the vibes matter most.

James Coyle
James was more than a rider—he was joy in motion. The kind of friend who never asked where we were headed, only if we were rolling. He showed up with a smile, stayed with good vibes, and left a mark on every mile. His laughter was contagious, his spirit unshakable, and his love for life and bikes was pure. Though he’s no longer with us physically, James will always ride alongside us—in every climb, every descent, and every laugh around the fire.
Ride in peace, James. We miss you. We remember you. We carry you.
